Eva has been singing for as long, if not longer, than she has been talking. Even as a babe in arms, she attended to music. For the past 2 years, she has been studying voice with Krista Enos, a very special person in our lives.

We first met Krista when Eva took gymnastics from her many years ago. Eva also did 2 years of Group Gym with Krista as the choreographer and coach. Group Gym is a multi-age, multi-skill-level tumbling-dance-gymnastics routine done to music. The kids would practice all year and then gather with other Group Gym programs from throughout the state to share their work.

We first learned of Krista’s musical ability when she invited us to attend a performance of her women’s acapela ensemble, Solstice (see sidebar.) When Eva decided she wanted to improve her singing, we asked Krista to help.

Sonya, one of the other vocalists who performed in yesterday’s recital (the middle one in the trio) was also in Group Gym. That was several years ago when Sonya was one of the “older girls” and was taller than Eva!! It’s a very special treat for us to have shared yet another performance with Sonya.

I need to get permission to post the other girls, but until I do, enjoy Eva’s part of the recital.

This is Eva’s 7th year in Young Actor’s Workshop, a unique theater program where the kids write and perform their original play. This year’s play was “Babies.” A mix-up at the baby factory occurs when too much baby powder is added to the machine the babies come out way too big. The oldest kids (middle and early high school) are the babies, and the youngest (K-3) are the parents.
Further mishaps occur when two babysitters are so wrapped up claiming to be the best, they forget to pay attention to their job. Eva is one of the babysitters.

Ben plays in a band that is pretty sporadic about getting together, but they usually pull off a couple of performances a year. The photo below is from the local high school’s Battle of the Bands. I was unable to get a front row seat for this show so the quality of the recording was not that great. Ben thinks it’s poor enough that he doesn’t want it on U-tube, so I’ve removed it. Ben usually plays drums, but this time he sang one song–and did a great job. It’s fun to watch him blossom. Maybe some day he’ll be ready to let me share it with you.

An unusual combo- but it works May 10, 2009
