Wisdom Supporting Liberty

Wisdom Supporting Liberty

I came across this sculpture by Jules Dalou at 3 Ring Binder and could not resist sharing it.

Liberty can not stand alone. We truly need Wisdom, that pinnacle of consistent rationality, to understand the coexisting values and principles necessary for the preservation of Liberty, indeed of Life itself. Without those principles (which include an absolute respect for the triumvirate of individual rights–life, liberty, property) and the application of reason to both identify and defend them, Liberty will be unable to withstand the multitude of assaults aimed against her, and eventually will succumb in exhaustion.

To be effective, our eternal vigilence must be wisely defended.

Physics

Physics

I love art. What a gift to be able to give others a glimpse of those private, wordless parts of ourselves. To take a thought, an idea, a feeling, and give it physical form.
I particularly love art that helps me slow down, focus, and center in on the joy of living. It’s so easy to get caught up in the busy-ness of doing, living, acting, that I forget to take the time to reflect, notice, enjoy.
So treat yourself to some art. Find something you love, and then ask, Why?
I love this one because it melds art and science, two things often thought of as opposites, but they aren’t. I like the surprise of being reminded of that in a gentle way that says “Look. Here we are. Together. As we should be.”
Check out more at RinatArt and at her show at the Hunter’s point Open Studios on Saturday, November 1, 2008.
